Family reading club
with little ones aged 3 to 5 years
What do we do in the club?
Explore books
We have books of various formats, genres, and authors, suitable for the characteristics and interests of the little ones.
Read freely
You and your baby can choose what you wish to read, as well as receive personalised recommendations.
Read as a group
We read specially selected texts to the whole group.
Imagine, draw, and explore writing
We play with stories, imagine new possibilities, the little ones begin to see what we use writing for and make their first signatures. We also enjoy songs in Spanish.
Borrow books
We operate like a library. At each meeting, you can take a book home to continue reading in Spanish during the week.
Exchange among adults
We discuss -among other topics- criteria for choosing books and ways to read to the little ones.
Build community
Raising your child outside your country and passing on Spanish as a heritage language requires a network that also speaks your language.
Our principles
Reading as a moment of enjoyment
We believe that children enjoy reading when it is presented as an activity linked to pleasure and freedom. That’s why we allow them to handle books, peek at them, choose them, and enjoy reading the same stories over and over.
Books that accompany
We do not intend to generate specific learning in children through reading (for example, helping them to "manage" their emotions). Instead, we believe that through reading they can eventually identify and navigate certain emotions in a safe environment. Also, that reading allows them to know the world and imagine new possible worlds.
Small groups
We work with a maximum of 8 children with their companion.
Children as protagonists
The little ones take an active role: they choose the books, communicate their preferences and interact with others.
Multiple interpretations
Each person (child or adult) interprets a story from their experience and knowledge. By sharing with others we can expand or change our interpretation, but there is no single correct interpretation that everyone must reach. That is why we promote genuine exchange between readers (and not the assessment of comprehension).
Four reasons to be part of...
1
Connection
You strengthen the bond with your child by enveloping them with words and sharing stories.
2
Development
You promote their linguistic and cognitive development.
3
Transmission
You find in books an ally to transmit your language and your culture.
4
Advisory
You receive advice and recommendations on reading in early childhood.
